The Cabinet Sessions brings music, art, and slow experiences together at the Rubenshuis

On Friday, September 4th, The Cabinet Sessions returns to the Rubenshuis for a seventh edition. Expect not a classic museum evening, but a surprising mix of live music, art, meditation, workshops, and drinks in one of the most unique historical locations in Antwerp.

Curator B-Classic once again provides the musical program, bringing Remy Van Kesteren, Bert Peyffers, and Boris Van Overschee together on one stage for the first time.

Three musicians, one special encounter

During the evening, three musical worlds meet. Harpist Remy Van Kesteren combines classical music with electronics, pop, and improvisation. Percussionist and composer Bert Peyffers moves between jazz, world music, and electronics, while guitarist and producer Boris Van Overschee experiments with guitar, sound design, and layered soundscapes.

Together, they create an exclusive musical encounter in the intimate setting of the Rubenshuis.

Discover a rare Rubens up close

Art lovers will also get to see something special. During short lectures, curator An Van Camp will talk about a double-sided sheet from 1607, featuring a drawing and a handwritten letter from Rubens.

Rubens likely sketched three apostles on one side, while on the other side is a draft version of a letter to a colleague. This combination makes the sheet an exceptional document from Rubens' Italian period.

From water meditation to Slow Art

The Cabinet Sessions also invites visitors to consciously slow down. During a water meditation led by Céline Lafrikh, you will be taken into a meditative soundscape around water, nature, and connection.

During the Slow Art tour, Hercules takes center stage. Together with a guide, you will discover the hidden symbolism and stories in the historical pavilion of the Rubenshuis.

Create yourself during the workshops

For those who like to get hands-on, there are various workshops to participate in.

Wild forager Najomi from Scoby Club will introduce you to herbs, scents, and flavors. You will create your own herbal tea blend and take the personal mixture home.

During the ongoing cyanotype workshop, you will experiment with one of the oldest photographic techniques. Using plants from the garden and light-sensitive paper, you will create a unique botanical blueprint.

Ask Rubens and drinks in the garden

Throughout the evening, Rubens storytellers will be ready to answer questions about the garden and the Rubens Experience. You can recognize them by their green badge.

In between, you can order a drink at the bar, take a seat in the garden, and enjoy the beats and the special evening atmosphere.
