One of the oldest and most famous fry shops is undoubtedly Max. As early as 1842, he was at his fry stand, alongside the famous Rubens statue, in Burchtplein in Antwerp. When the Scheldt was straightened, Burchtplein disappeared, but not the Rubens statue or Fritkot Max. Both moved to the nearby Groenplaats, at the foot of the cathedral. Unfortunately, the original kiosk that was outside could not be rebuilt on the prestigious square. But no worries, the ground floor of the 19th-century fry shop has been incorporated into the current interior.
